Definition of tableau

1: a graphic description or representation : PICTURE

Thank you Merriam Webster dictionary for the definition. This collection of tableaux are what I have discovered in my effort to GET something different! An idea not entirely new, but one that I think I have put my own spin on most certainly (who chooses trash as their photography subject - well some people I suppose)! What that says about me is I am a little abnormal (I wish nothing else for myself and everyone else), but what is even more telling is my enjoyment of puns and word play. I am well aware that puns are the lowest form of comedy, yet I argue that they are funny nonetheless. Even The Bard (Shakespeare for those of you without a literature background), dabbled in their comedic form. So if he can do it, why can't I? He still lives on and people copy him all the time, so what the heck?!?

The GET or Gather - Envision - Take-away idea is still evolving and may indeed change over time. A take-away simply put is a noun referring to the thought, idea, or item you take with you from something significant or memorable. You can also use it is as a verb to literally take something away. In this crazy idea of mine (and in my world of double meanings) it means both. You can take-away a moment or a thought, but you can also take-away the trash that is dirtying up an otherwise picturesque location. 

My idea for Trash and Treasure Tableau was inspired by the ideas that I would like to practice using my digital camera, need an excuse to walk more, and most importantly to ward off boredom. I also like to write and express my myself in ways that people tend to think of as strange, weird, and off the wall. If I tell a joke or a story, and I get a moan... mission complete!

The idea of Trash and Treasure Tableau has also inspired the main character in the cozy mystery I am currently writing... no spoiler here because frankly it is pretty good, and I don't want anyone to steal it (jk, but not really)!

Enjoy my tableaux (yes that is the plural of tableau) and take a stab at creating your own! It is a great activity for a group (You can "GET" together) or a nice distraction for kids at a rest stop on a long trip (You kids, "GET!"). It is easy, fun, creative, and helps to clean up the trash that people have decided should become part of the beautiful landscape we call America (I strongly disagree with this addition)! Help make America clean again one tableau at a time!

 June 29-30, 2022 Well, since I GET to spend some time with wildlife this trip to Bolivar, PA to see bears up close and personal was a no brainer! I am so fortunate that most of my tableaux have been a treasurer and this one was no exception!  The PA Game Commission (the Southwest Region Office  sponsored this wonderful two day professional development workshop for educators, and I just had to be a part of it! I don't think I need to explain my tableau, but I can say that the title of the training was "Wild About Bears". Not only because bears are well... cool... it is because this program is part of the bigger program Project Wild that was developed by the Association of Fish and Wildlife who wants to raise awareness of conservation of wildlife and their habitats for kids in K-12. It is okay to be a "Chicken of the Woods".

 July 15, 2022 Okay, so it is always okay to be a chicken in the woods, especially if you're not the outdoorsy type, but for me, I am always a little adventurous for my own (clumsy, not aware of my surroundings) good. However, I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt, I don't eat anything I find in the woods even if someone says it is absolutely okay!  I have a very "delicate constitution" and my histamine autoimmune disorder ensures that anything that doesn't agree with me may send me straight to the ER (I turn into a Who from Whoville), but the absolute beauty of these mushrooms made me want to tempt fate and my $35 co-pay to eat these (I think) Chicken of the Woods . So this tableau is inspired by the idea that I would find, forage, and eat these absolutely beautiful mushrooms... which up to this day, is only in my mind. I'm still chicken! Gettin' squirrely and just nuts about it!

 August 8, 2022 This tableau is my time at Cascade Park in New Castle, PA with my son! Although the park is totally awesome with a waterfall and lots of history, the best part of this day was playing with the wildlife that we encountered along the way. I don't GET to do this type of thing with my son since he is away at college, so we took the time on this cloudy day to take a stroll around the park, but we didn't anticipate we would see so much wildlife on our walk. You can read more details about the park via the link above, but the bottom line is this used to be an amusement park that was founded in the late 1800s. There are still some of the roller coaster that's claim to fame was going through the woods. Can you can see the rails on the picture on the left and what is left of a base on the right.
